Deanna_cropDr. Deanna Gates, Assistant Professor of Movement Science, was recently awarded a two-year grant from the Department of Defense. Dr. Gates’ work aims to investigate the effectiveness of ankle-powered prostheses in reducing compensatory muscle activity, delaying the onset of muscle fatigue, and increasing overall physical activity levels. The results of her research could be fundamental in determining how effective these devices are for people with transtibial amputations and will help clinicians select the most appropriate type of prosthesis for a patient.
